Mind Over Mirror
It's easy to live in your head
Spending a month in a hospital bed
I was a fit blonde twenty-three
With a box of red hair dye on the table beside me
In my mind I was already there
Just had to get home to actually dye my hair
Once home a chair and mirror were set up for me
I disrobed, the first time since the accident my body to see
I sat long with the mirror in a mild state of shock
Surveying soft sunken muscle that used to be rock
So strong in my memory this girl looked so weak
Such a lesson in mortality sure makes one meek
I sighed and acquainted myself with this stranger
Picked up the hair dye and set forth to be her.
