Milking Shed Line Dancers

They're moving up closer from the fields of clover. Dog circles around behind. Making sure they head for the milking shed, like they do every milking time. Standing out of the mud, chewing their cud, holding their heads down low - turning up the beat on the ABC; boot scootin' boogie comes alive on the radio. The cows started prancing; they're all line dancing, Back and forward across the pen. There in the bails they're all swinging their tails, goose stepping now and then. The flies on the wall are beginning to crawl, moving from left to right. Dog rolled on the floor; he's clapping his paws. The milking shed's beating in country time. The music's played over; back to dreaming of clover, with calming classical music but then, someone made a mistake - what an error to make. They're playing boot scootin' boogie again. The milking shed's beating in country time. The milking shed's beating in country time.

G'day Shirley … video your dancing. I'd love to watch it. Cows in the milking shed I helped in seemed to prefer classical music. Thank you for your humorous comment Shirley - Lindsay

Hello Phyllis … I only helped on odd days in a herringbone shed and both of us would have experienced the same trials and tribulations of dairy cattle and the shed. I think I did most of the dancing - thanks Phyllis - Lindsay

Dancing cattle - great image! Do you or have you ever lived on a farm? I visited a kibbutz in Israel and saw the cows there. Keep it up! Peace & Love Matthew Anish

Not lived Matthew, but helped to milk in a herringbone shed many times. Cows are predictable until you try to alter their habits, then watch out - thank you once again Matthew - Lindsay

G'Day, Lindsay. Sounds like a herd of contented cows in this very witty verse! Thx for commenting on the Burma Shave write. In the 30s & 40s when I was a kid, Burma Shave signs were nailed to posts along nearly every hi-way in Indiana. One line of a verse was on one post and the other lines posted further down the road on other posts on boards. It was fun reading stuff the "bards" concocted similar to what I wrote - Bob

G'day Bob … we had the same with Griffith Bros. Teas. Every mile along our railway line was their ad plus the mileage to Melbourne Central. Cows in a dairy detest change Bob and they have their pecking order. Try to change that at your own peril - thanks Bob - Lindsay

Hello Harry … the dairy deserves a bit of fun with all the serious things that go on trying to keep the cows contended and milk clean. I can imagine you might have done a step or two while making breakfast Harry - Lindsay

Hello Pixie … yes, it's for the imagination to run wild. I'm from Southern Victoria in Australia, and only a few know what Thanksgiving is, and it's certainly not celebrated - thank you Pixie - Lindsay

Experience you say Rico! Trying to stay on my feet after slipping on a cow pat in the milking yard could have influenced the urge to write this - thanks Rico - Lindsay

Too cute. Guess they all must love Billy Rae. Really cute little song you wrote. Now all we need is the melody. Love it. God Bless, JB

G'day David … cows appear to be calmer in the shed when music is being played. I have never had any dancing thankfully. The milk in the udders might turn to butter if they did - thank you David - Lindsay
