Middle of the Week

It was a Wednesday afternoon Nearly end of a working day Just middle of the week Quiet, no different from another Wednesday Then suddenly Breaking News Cut through the mundane and changed our lives An attack on Westminster Bridge Where Wordsworth wrote Where we all walked Screams, people running, people falling Some of us wounded Some of us killed Mowed down by a car A means of transport Never intended to be a weapon A policeman outside parliament stabbed Killed on duty Doing his job Just another day Middle of the week 82 seconds of mayhem My heart sinks The words…. I don’t want to believe I don’t want to hear … a terrorist attack
