Mid-Eastern Tales 4
Mid Eastern Tales 4
Curtis Johnson
It was not the land before time; but it was a long time ago.
There once lived a queen in the Middle East, not very far from the Great Sea. She was the queen of a great nation that once was one. But a bloody civil war divided the nation, destroying the unity. The once powerful nation then became a Northern and Southern Kingdom.
Jezebel was the daughter of a king of another country. She married a king in a foreign country and became a queen.
She was not a good woman. In fact, she was very evil. She was also very religious, but hated another major religion and killed many of its prophets.
On behalf of her husband who was rather weak, she killed a civilian to take possession of his property. The gentleman apparently had the right to refuse and chose not to sell his property to the king. He said that it was an ancestral inheritance which the king respected. But the queen didn’t care. Queen Jezebel did not believe in ‘due process’, and in her own mind, eminent domain was another word for ‘murder’.
Yes, she was evil.
Although she and her husband King Ahab ruled for more than 20 years, she died a horrifying death, too graphic to mention here. She was so evil that throughout history, ‘her name’ seem to be cherished by noon.
