Metamorphosis
Mother’s frailty was surely a dominant gene
Small wonder school bullies showered me with attention
One day having been rendered defenseless
I resigned to the usual rain of fists
Feeling no pain, my eyes opened to see
A handsome lad giving my assailant his own dose
Thus, John the brave, became a treasure
Time lapse, with college behind me
On the tram home, I beheld a ravishing beauty
My senses assaulted, I approached her
Her gaze fixed quizzically on me
She then called my name
Sensing my perplexity, she whispered
“You knew me as John; how I hated being John”
Numb with disbelief, I wondered
How many ladies out there were truly born girls?!
