Message On a Headstone

My name is here, But you'll not find me. I am with my best friends Near the clear, salt sea. We are in the wind, In the ocean's roar: On the smooth, cool stones Of some sandy shore. We are in the waves, As they break on the rocks. Here time has no meaning, The seasons are clocks. We are never alone In this place by the sea. We are always together, As good friends will be. We did not decay: Turn to rot, then to bone. We're not part of the earth; It is not our last home. We've had a good laugh, My old friends and me. We've escaped the dark grave, By the clear, salt sea. © 2015 Diane Lefebvre

Thank you Rob, for those nice words. I have always received big praise for this piece, although I feel it is probably 'mid stream' as far as my own personal critique goes. It is nice to see that others can find the message in the poem.

Hello Sara, Thank you for reading and commenting on 'Message On A Tombstone'. I have always loved the ocean and feel such solace when I am there. It only stands to reason, I guess, that I would wish for my ashes to spread to the four winds there, after I am no longer of this earth.

I rather enjoyed reading your poem, Diane. It has a contented, quiet sort of "old world" charm associated with it...i found it all very comforting - very nicely done! :) john.

Being born in a time so different from the one we are now in, sort of makes me more of the old world I imagine, John. I do want to thank you for reading and taking the time to comment and in such a positive way.
