Mermaid Melody

I was submerged in
an ocean
          of rants,
hiding the sparkles
of my
poetic
       planktons.
My meaningless
phrases
that meant
everything,
but
   nothing and anything
at the same time.

Yet I found
   mermaid melodies
   from idyllic waves,
placed
    with love
in my heart,
by a
   mystical angel
worlds apart,
that felt like home
    in so many forms,
when bitter reality
was
crashing
 and
    thrashing,
my bones with no
mercy or empathy.

Although twin flames
     reignited
          lost romance,
against every tide of
redolent rhymes
and measured meters,
as couplets destined
     to be sweethearts.

In a world
of untold
     words
and expressions,
we scribbled
sensual senryu,
and silver sonnets,
along lilac lines
of lavender shadows
   where ebony fingers
intertwined to devise,
cryptic potions of
   pearlescent personifications,
and
harlequin haiku
as well as
ethereal etherees,
where hourglass nonets
bleed
amethyst alliterations,
forever composing
floral choruses
whilst healing through
free verse
with strawberry musings,
on a sandbank
where islanders
rendered
        ravishing runes,
dripping on
chocolate reveries,
     about soulmates
that sheltered their
love in
       an
           oyster
                  shell.

Such a memorable ending to your exceptional poem. "Love in an oyster shell" - power punch image as are so many of your word couplings. "Strawberry musings," chocolate reveries," "silver sonnets" - all contribute to the poetic resonance of your poem. The structure of the piece is top notch too. Congratulations! Brian

Dear Empress, my heart's imagination is swept up and away in a poetic whirl of lyrical enchantment and "mermaid melodies". Your exquisite poem is full of lustrous pearls of imagery, emotions, alliterations and word phrases like "poetic planktons" and "ravishing runes" and "where where hourglass nonets bleed" but my absolute fav verse was "soulmates that sheltered their love in an oyster shell" - magnifique dear gifted poetess! Congratulations for your win in Brian's contest. Warmest wishes my soulful friend.. ~Susan

Perfectly woven words exude melodies as you take the reader through your poetic prowess, my friend. Quite original how you have used so many poetic forms to paint your canvas: we scribbled sensual senryu, and silver sonnets, along lilac lines of lavender shadows--cryptic potions of pearlescent personifications, and harlequin haiku as well as ethereal etherees, where hourglass nonets--WOW! A definite FAVE!!

My dear Ink Empress, you truly know how to enchant my heart with these oceanic imageries as I too, have a mermaid heart with an utmost desire of being a mermaid, but with wings haha. This one's such a beautifully romantic and heartfelt write where you've so gorgeously conveyed how your soul filled with a lavender light, when the beloved, hued your life with ecstasy.I'm loving the marine theme here as well as the poetic combinations in the last stanza which stroll in vivid forms n devices of poetry

hiding the sparkles of my poetic planktons", "crashing and thrashing my bones with no mercy or empathy" That's so evocative.."along lilac lines of lavender", "shadows that sheltered their love in an oyster shell" Gosh, that ending is so purely an art.. What an enchanting and mesmeric piece this is.. An instant FAV :) keep writing and shining always.. Sending love & light ~

This is a great entry for Brian Strands;s contest.. beautifully captures the depth and complexity of emotions, using vivid imagery of poetic forms. The metaphor of being submerged in an ocean of rants while hiding the sparkles of poetic planktons is particularly striking, suggesting a struggle to maintain the essence of creativity amid the chaos of life... The juxtaposition of "meaningless phrases that meant everything, but nothing and anything at the same time" adds a layer of ambiguity,

reflecting the inherent paradox in the power of language. The emergence of "mermaid melodies" and the mention of a "mystical angel" introduces a sense of divine intervention or inspiration, providing solace in the face of harsh realities... The concluding image of "soulmates that sheltered their love in an oyster shell" is both unique and evocative, symbolizing the delicate yet protective nature of profound connections amidst the unpredictable sea of life.. Your poem is a testament to the transformative power of poetry, weaving together diverse elements to create a captivating narrative.
