Memories of Trees

Note: When I posted this poem earlier, it somehow got deleted.

Tall oak trees played a special role in childhood joy for me.
The swings suspended from their limbs were sources of great fun.
My parents wouldn’t let me go too high, yet I felt free—
just like a soaring little swallow basking in the sun.

We used to have a butter nut tree in our backyard. I remember how proud I was to be able to climb that tree when I was young. It was a good tree to hide from my brother and his friends and watch the squirrels steal soft but hard butternuts from each other. I especially enjoyed your last two lines. It was fun to read. Your poems always bring back nice memories for me.😄

Climbing trees is a favorite fun for most of the children. But fearing their safety, parents generally won't allow it. A beautifully written little poem, dear Janice.

Thanks, Andrea. I have to keep re-posting because my poems keep disappearing from the site. I've contacted PS. Poems continue to vanish. Janice
