Memories of the Travellers

The gypsies’ caravans, Not welcome in our town, Had parked and settled down, Appeared to have no plans, Were shouted at by grans, Disliked for their renown. They called them tramps and thieves, Not having an address, And said they’d leave a mess; I thought they’d read tea leaves, Wear clothes with fancy sleeves - Was wrong I must confess. They left the site a dump; And people got the hump. 22 April, for Lisa’s Gypsies, tramps and thieves contest Using the HexSonnetta, a form created by Andrea

Nice....I slightly remember seeing a gypsy caravan when I was a small child....and no one liked them here either.

also want to tell you, it's very admirable how you can work so well with new forms. You really take to almost any new form, particularly the short ones! I am always amazed how you can just take a complicated topic such as this gypsies, tramps and thieves and pull something right out of your hat!!

You did great with this one too. I think I personally prefer that 7/5 trochee form over my little hexsonnetta. After I came up with it, I found it to be very tiny and hard to work with. But you did really well, Jack. I had forgotten my own formula for this form, as I have only done one or two HexSonnettas to date (bad me!!)! thanks so much for taking the time to enter contests using my small created forms here at Soup. What a compliment for me to see those forms employed here!

I entered this contest too witha poem about the gypsy memories of my youth. People used to tell their children that they better behave or they would be stolen by gypsies. I wonder what their lives were really like. Great memory. Love, Joyce

I like your poem. i never met any gypsies, or tramps or thieves (that I knew of), it draws a clear images of the reputation they earned. I also like this sonnet form.
