My lovely grandma taught me how to bake apple pie I helped her in the kitchen from when I was knee high Old family recipes were written down in a book Cakes, cookies and pies were all so skilfully made When grandma gave instructions I quickly obeyed We’d pour over the pages deciding what we would cook I recall those childhood days and I often look At its stained pages and the knowledge she conveyed Baking was such fun Precious memories remain I remember happy times Every time I bake I put on her blue apron And teach my son how to cook Fictional write - Sadly I didn't have a maternal or paternal grandmother and feel I missed out so much as a child Contest Three Style II Sponsored by Laura Loo Rules 1. Hi Jan, This is a moving tribute to grandama's everywhere. It sure did put me in the mind of my grandmother. Although I can't recall baking with my grandma I enjoyed this very much. I wish you the best of luck in the contest. A Big seven:-) Alexis

The odd thing is Joe I have learned that my maternal grandmother wrote poetry as does my aunt and uncle. My mum tells me she did in her youth... but it wasn't until my husband's cancer surgery in November 2013 that I wrote my first poem since my schooldays (and I hated poetry at school!!!) :-) hugs jan xx

Your fictional poem is lovely! I know you feel an empty 'grandparent' spot, but we can't wish to change anything that made you who you are. My Father was adopted by his aunt and uncle who lived across the street from his parents (long story) so I HAD 3 sets. There should be an adopt a grandparent service/program! I enjoyed the write that took me to the smells in Moma Bee's kitchen (my Dad's adopted Mom). All the best ... CayCay

Thanks CayCay - I think the idea of adopt a grandparent service sounds wonderful older people have so much knowledge to impart!:-) hugs jan xx

What a lovely picture you paint, Jan...true or not. It reminds me of the time when I was in college when my English professor assigned us a piece to write about our parents and I wrote that my mother was a singer and my father was a painter. Wellll, mama did have a pretty voice and daddy really could draw. It's fun to fantacize sometimes, isn't it?

I had a grandmother once upon a time. However, my memory of her are tiny. I love the gig by the way. Jan, I want my grandkids to experience the best out of me. I don't make the best apple pie, I make the best brownies. Such a sweet write. My granddaughter has an orange apron. Thank you for sharing your imaginative poem. For many can relate. Wuv Ya ...Linda

I used to envy school friends so much who were always 'having tea with grandma' and doing wonderful things with their grandparents - I missed out on this so much as I had no grandparents at all (only a step step grandma who lived miles away and was no actual relation) Oh I make the best brownies Linda made with ground almonds no flour :-):-):-) thanks for your lovely comment my friend:-)hugs Jan xx

Thanks Rick, sadly it is total fiction for me. I'm amazed I wrote the poem and then found the perfect pic to go with the poem even down to the blue apron!:-) hugs Jan xx
