Memories of a Sapphire Pond

As ashen clouds caress an azure sky I walk beside this stagnate lime green pond, and think about this path in days gone by; the sapphire pond of which I was so fond. So full of promise as it teemed with life; the snow white swans that glided ‘cross her face, and full of ocher lilies it was rife; fond memories that time cannot erase. But now the carelessness of all mankind has taken toll upon this gift of God; diminished dreams now only things you find remaining here upon this weathered sod. And now I walk this path with misty eye as ashen clouds caress an azure sky. May 16, 2019

This is so beautiful, John and as usual, written with perfect rhythm and rhyme. You depicted the scene simply and so clearly that I felt that I was walking alongside you! I really enjoyed reading your sonnet.

So sad. I two had a pond I loved as a child. It was covered over for a warehouse. Like you, John, I have my memories

John, excellent poem and writing, full of emotion, I know exactly what you mean, here in Canada our waterways are littered with discarded garbage and the wildlife and fish are eating plastic and dying as a result, what has mankind done !

Thank you for your thoughts, Constance, I have always enjoyed nature and walking in it's solitude, but now my walks aren't as enjoyable. It's sad to see the disrespect for nature that some people have. John

When lingering in moments of yesterday, the heart is reminded of its beauty. Even though change is made by mankind, memories never change. This is so beautifully written and presented. Thoughts from the heart. ~ Brandy
