Memories and Old Melodies Premiere Contest Winner

Tonight, as I gaze at a blood red moon in the sky, I hear the rhythmic pattering of gentle rains. Memories and old melodies, I recall with a sigh, as the sweet fragrance of red roses remains. I hear the rhythmic pattering of gentle rains. I'm reminded of another time and another day, as the sweet fragrance of red roses remains. The day he proposed with a crimson bouquet. I'm reminded of another time and another day. With his love declared, I wanted nothing more. The day he proposed with a crimson bouquet and the velvety petals that made my heart soar. With his love declared, I wanted nothing more. But now, the sugared scent of blooming roses, and the velvety petals that made my heart soar, cause my heart to ache. Oh, such pain it imposes. But now, the sugared scent of blooming roses, memories and old melodies, I recall with a sigh, cause my heart to ache. Oh, such pain it imposes, tonight, as I gaze at a blood red moon in the sky. Congratulations on your podium win Jenna. Sight and scent has such an ability to carry back in time. You have wonderfully articulated the ambivalence of time travel through memory. Blessings

The metaphor of red Moon and red roses is not lost in this beautiful piece Jenna. This form is difficult to write without the lines seeming forced. This is an excellent example of how to write one correctly. Congratulations on your wonderful trophy, it is well deserved! Blessings xxoo

Jenna, how you express yourself is what makes your poetry unique and qualifies it as art, well written my friend, Emile.

Yes, I am, Milt. I'm always surprised with a win, and sometimes with an N/A. Thank you for honoring my lines. I read many of the entries, and I think at least 5 others were top notch quality. I didn't envy you for having to judge.

WoW! Jenna, You composed such a well-written entry for the contest. It’s not a good feeling when a love such as this goes cold. Good content and imagery. Best wishes for contest. Have a great day:-)Alexis

It's heartbreaking, but we are not immune to the pain, nor falling in love. Thanks, Alexis.

Absolutely stunning in imagery, emotion, and heartbreaking melancholy, Jenna. The sights, sounds, and smells we experience may trigger pleasant memories or bring back thoughts we wish we could leave behind. My favorite line is "the velvety petals that made my heart soar." The blood red moon and eclipse on Sunday was remarkable and apparently was the inspiration for this amazing pantoum... a Fav. Blessings ~ John

Lots of sadness in your verse Jenna and quite emotional. I find this form a tricky one to compose. Best of luck in the contest. Tom

I can see your well on the mend Jenna, inspiring romantic poetry, with a hint of Greek tragedy evolving throughout, You will have Milton sighing and crying reading this one, brilliant work, all the best for contest, cheers David

Thanks a lot, David. I actually started writing this before my illness, but thought it deserved to be completed. We shall see what he thinks of it. It's one of the few I've entered into any contest lately.

Thank you, Laura. It DOES take some thought and rewriting to have a Pantoum make sense, but worth the effort.

I like how this takes you on a journey through happy, then sad, times, a touch of mystery also, and it concludes so well, nice inspiration of the red moon too, Jenna~
