Memories

The warm glow of the gold lantern
Nestled in my hands
Reminds me of the light of hope
As I learn to understand
How memories guide our way to live
How memories move our heart to give.
In late summer
All the happiness comes back
As we remember
What spring brought to us...

Gazing at the gold lantern
As I raise my arms
Fingers slowly loosen grip
To let it float on.
Watch these memories reach the sky
Let the spirit soar as you remember why
For all that they teach us
They're our living guide...

Remember the people
Who are lodged in heart.
Recalling sad times too
Won't bring you harm
For memory can protect our soul
By granting us the wisdom
That we need in life...

Our memories are golden!
Those of love bring hope
And like that lantern glow,
They can lift us up.
So remember in late summer
There's more good to come.

Natasha, without memories, fond or not, our lives become dull. Enjoyed your interplay of memories with hope and as a guide to future living. Congratulations. Mohan

A warm, uplifting free-verse poem that uses the gold lantern as a graceful symbol of memory, hope, and spiritual release. The recurring lantern image gives the piece cohesion, while the gentle seasonal movement—from spring to late summer—adds a feeling of renewal and reassurance. PS: loved the song as well. Congratulations on a well deserved POTD

Aww, thank you Alison. Im so happy you felt the intended message of the poem. Also thank you for taking a listen to it as a song. Suno is new to me but thought I'd give it a go. One of my friends introduced me to it and I've noticed one or two others on here using it. It definitely adds a whole other dimension to the poetry xx 😄🌸✨️

Dear Natasha, Congrats on POTD. I really like how simple and honest this feels. That opening image of holding the lantern and then just letting go, it’s such a clean, natural way to talk about memory. My favorite part is that third stanza, though. So many memory poems go full Hallmark, but acknowledging that the sad stuff matters too gives the whole thing some actual backbone. It makes the "late summer" optimism feel earned instead of just sweet. Really nice poem. Blessings, Daniel

Wow, thank you Daniel 😊 I like to try to put a realistic feel into the poem. Not all memories are good ones but we can still make the most of them and use them for the good of ourselves and others. I deeply appreciate your thoughtful insight in the observations you make. You are such a deep thinker. 😉✨️

Numinous Natasha, 🌸 Thy golden lantern seemeth to me no mere object of the wheel, but a little vessel wherein memory itself hath been kindled into hope. Thou hast wrought a gentle alchemy whereby what is past doth not merely haunt the heart, but illumine the road yet unwended. I especially cherish the thought that even sorrowful remembrance may become wisdom rather than wound—the past, transfigured, becoming a lantern for what is yet to come. ✨ A tender and luminous piece of poesy, Noctilucent Natasha, wherein memory doth not bid us look backward, but teacheth the soul how to walk onward aglow. 🔥

Wow, thank you for your thoughtful deep insight into the poem, you have taken the lantern for what I wanted readers to feel and your way of expression brings awe. And as you also saw, I wanted to twist the negative of bad memories into a force that moves us forward in positive directions. what a generous feedback! Very powerful. Thank you 😊✨️

Aww, thank you Dorothy 😊 ✨️💖✨️ Memories can help us navigate life, grieving process and friendships/relationships... very precious on so many levels. When writing about the lantern I was thinking of the movie Tangled .. lol ... it felt like the image fitted the theme well as every year the kingdom remembered her 😊🌸🫂
