Memories
Today as Halloween draws near
I see scary, hideous masks and decorations.
Each one meant to scare a body and cause
most frightening, heart-stopping sensations
My mind takes me back to the times
when my childhood in Montana held sway
Excitement would fill us and happiness reigned
as we held our breaths for Halloween day
Our Teacher would help us draw pumpkins
and every window held leaves of red and gold
We made our own bags with funny faces
for all the candy they could possibly hold.
Maybe Heaven, where I will go one sweet day
will have the good things and none of the sad.
It makes contemplating death less fearful,
escaping all of the meanness and evil and bad.
