Megan's Quest Part 6of7

With the Trolls passed out on the grass...the regrettable task
now fell to the brave Talkalot.
He moved to the gate and taking a sip from his flask...
he stared diligently at the magical lock.

He looked to the left and then looked to the right...
then turned around and sat on his head.
Moving in such a strange way... he mage a remarkable sight
but as to his success there was a deep feeling of dread.

He fell to his knees with his hands on the ground
and started growling like a wolf at the moon.
He pawed and he hissed making a gurgling sound...
they moved back to give him more room.

He began sniffing the lock which seemed a great waste
as they thought he was losing all track.
But when he began licking the thing and getting a taste
they thought for sure they would have to turn back.

Megan whispered, 'Stand fast and give him a chance.
We must be patient as he is our hope.'
Then the Talkalot smiled and began a motionless dance
while Graygall quietly murmured, 'What a dope.'

He conjured strange things that no one had heard
and the lock seemed to suddenly wiggle and twist.
And Pixies and Fairies appeared at the behest of his words
while a Moon Sprite danced in their midst.

Just as all hope was lost he leapt at the lock
driving his fingers deep into where the key should have been.
And after uttering the words of a Wizard... all were in shock
as the lock fell away... and just like that they were in.

They moved past the gate in a good state of mind
but were silent and made not a peep.
And with no other guards... they were happy to find
all the rest of the Trolls were a sleep.

'Now this is the hard part,' Regan correctly observed.
'How to find Father in a castle with so many rooms?
The hallways are endless... full of corners and curves...
this is not a castle but more of a tomb.'

'The boy has laid out the truth,' Graygall said with distain.
'We will become lost and with the coming of day...
The Trolls will finally awake and bind us in chains...
we will no longer be hunters... but prey.'

Slaygon looked angry and wrinkled his face,
'I know a shortage of time has caused you to fear.
So I suggest we quickly begin as if in a race
and find the Father before the Trolls know we are here.'

'If I may say something,' said Blender to begin the affair.
'I have an idea that may possibly be right.
But it seems to me we should start over there
as there is only one room still showing a light.'

They looked to the courtyard and saw it was true...
a single room shining as bright as can be.
And all passionately hoped that this was the clue
and sharp eyed Blender had discovered its key.

'Graygall and Regan will remain by the gate,'
said Beatia to lay out her vision.
'While the rest of us creep at a reasonable rate
to where we hope the Father's imprisoned.'

They entered the castle knowing the danger they faced
and climbed the stairs to find the right floor.
Then moved down the hallway to find the right place
which showed a light shining from under the door.

They stood by the door which contained a tiny peep hole
and looked to see a sight to fill them with dread.
For sleeping on a huge bed was the King of the Trolls
and in the corner a Man spinning some thread.

'Megan. Have a look,' said Slaygon in excitement and glee
'Is that your Father who works all alone?'
Megan moved in so she was able to see
and quietly cried, 'That is the Father I've known.'

They opened the door which made a small creak
and the old Tailor wondered why 'lumps would be near?
But his eyes took to tears and he was unable to speak...
when he saw that his Megan was here.

But nothing is easy when dealing with Trolls
and what they saw would make them distressed.
For an escape they would find to be no easy stroll
as the poor Tailor was chained to the desk.

The 'lumps examined the chain and let out a sigh
knowing they must break it to further their goal.
But do it they must... so they were determined to try
and hopefully without waking the Troll.

Megan and the 'lumps worked on the chains
while the Talkalot stood by in random repose.
And one can only guess what went through his brain...
as he reached out and touched the Troll on the nose.

                       End of Part 6/7
