Meaningless Without You

When I think of the things that I knew And consider the places I’ve been It soon becomes meaningless without you Seeming somewhat trite and déjà vu I spontaneously break into a grin Thinking back of our first rendezvous Through the years our love grew ever true While many fabulous adventures we’d spin Then I think of the things that I knew All becomes meaningless without you I forbid my heart to be filled with chagrin You would hate to be seeing me blue I’m now thinking of getting a tiny tattoo Showing a sensual mandolin Always there you would be right on cue I’m deciding on the size and the hue Where your breath would be caressing my skin Whenever I’d think of the things that I knew Life would feel less meaningless without you Submitted on January 14, 2019 for contest MID JAN 2019 sponsored by BRIAN STRAND - RANKED 1ST Originally posted on January 12, 2019

Life's experiences are more precious when shared with someone you love. You have captured this truth so lovely. Good luck in Nina's contest.

Thank you very much, Wren, but I want to write another one for Nina's contest... it will have to have either 8 or 19 syllables per line.

It is no surprise that you would choose the most difficult type of poem to write, Line. You have surpassed the challenge. It is a comforting poem that says all is well, for you are still in love.

This is a form that I hate writing but, for anyone who writes them well, Kudos! Good luck in the contest. Well done.

I like the emotion that is confirmed over and over through the refrain, Line. Wishing you success in Nina's contest. (Soup mail coming.) Hugs, Carolyn

Thank you so much, Carolyn. It is still early so I will write a new one for the contest. The villanelle is a fun and wonderful form to play with.
