Notes About The Poem

Maui Sunrise

Maui Sunrise

Warm hands seek out each other in
Maui's gloaming skies atop Haleakala.
Platinum clouds gather, slightly
shrouding dawn's shy arrival.

Forehead to forehead, soft breaths,
sharing butterfly kisses as lilac
skies morph into cerise hues
reflected on blushing cheeks.

Heartbeats increase, anticipating
dawn's brilliant appearance.
Her back to his chest, cradled in his arms,
his warm lips on her fragrant neck.

Excitement builds, a sliver of dawn's
tangerine eye makes a coy emergence
winking, as if she's aware romance
is blooming with her divine approach.

Slowly she gathers her satin robes of
scarlet and gold in an elegant display,
as enraptured eyes enjoy glorious hues,
as dawn dances in sparkling irises.

A couple wrapped in colors tenderly
share love's first kiss in paradise.
As dawn ascends, her light erases charcoal
shadows on emerald valleys and on
a cerulean sea mirroring the sky,
now blooming in symbiotic ivory clouds.

Wow! A stunning write with such gorgeous imagery, your words really come to life. There is so much love and tenderness skillfully penned in an explosion of such brilliant colour, I am in awe of the scope of your talent and creative mind. That this is set in Maui just amplifies the stunning vista of emotions your pen deftly evokes. Beautiful writing! blessings lynn p.s. My first ever read of "Romanticism" and also of "Colorfication". I really appreciate your note of explanation..thank you :-)

Thank you so very much for your lovely comment Lynn.. Colorfication is a made up word by the contest sponsor, Silent One. This is my first Romanticism poem. There are so many forms here that are still new to me and that is one reason I enjoy trying to write for the contests. It forces me to learn something new. I appreciate you dropping by. Aloha, Connie : )

Hi Connie, once more you set such a visual treat before our eyes. You let a day spring to life in your colours Connie. What a wonder this canvas would be to see. Beauty in which you live inspires words to dwell within the Soul and give the reader such peace. A well written poem in a kaleidoscope of colour, coming alive with incredible image does make an excellent write. A seven wings its way to you and this jewel goes into my faves....Vlad.

Love the way you tiptoe through all the beauty and imagery .... "slightly shrouding dawn's arrival" "tangerine eyes make a coy emergence" ... Mr. Silent is going to have a difficult time judging, as I've read a lot of beauties thus far ... best of luck, Connie! "charcoal shadows on emerald valleys" < is it odd that this part reminded of me of mint chocolate ice cream ... ? Can you just imagine .. CHOCOLATE shadows ? Okay ... I'll stop rambling now. Delightful!

Free verse or romanticism form, then I just listed all the colors and next to red blue etc. I chose one of his colors I wanted to use to make sure I didnt forget a color. You can even choose to use the plain colors but the whole idea is to pick one and only one from each color group. When you have used all your selected colors your poem is complete. Hope that helps. Thanks for your great feed back on this poem, it kept me up last night writing it. Here are my colors, for Grey I used platinum, then Yellow gold Pink cerise Purple lilac Orange tangerine Red scarlet White Ivory Black/brown charcoal Green emerald Blue cerulean

Well don't they always say write what you know? Thought I would share my daughter's trip to see the sunrise. It was on her honeymoon. Her husband took a photo of her after sunrise and she had sunglasses on. You can clearly see a Hawaiian King in red robes reflected in her sunglasses but there was no one there but the two of them. Spirits are strong on the islands. Thank you Daniel. ; )
