Mathematics

During my elementary, high school and college educational quest, I struggled to do my very best on every mathematical test. I was a "B" student in English, History and Art as I recall, But I never mastered the mysteries of mathematics at all! Basic arithmetic such as division and multiplication left me at sea. Even simple addition and subtraction overwhelmed me to a degree! Trying to conquer the times-table gave me a shocking jolt! Alas, teachers considered me a hopeless mathematical dolt! Geometry baffled me as to which were acute and obtuse angles, And even more perplexing were isosceles and scalene triangles! Beyond me were the formulas for figuring the areas of hexagons, Trapezoids, pyramids, circles, cubes and five-sided pentagons! Teachers told me that for my future, algebra was indispensable. Maybe so, but variables and coefficients were incomprehensible! My limited intellect couldn't comprehend quotients and binomials, Nor integrers, exponents, irrational numbers and trinomials! Needless to say, I didn't attempt calculus or trigonometry! Those disciplines were as foreign to me as parabolic geometry! I'm eternally grateful to that selfless, ingenioius creator, Who eased my plight by inventing the handy calculator! Robert L. Hinshaw, CMSgt, USAF, Retired © All Rights Reserved

oh Robert, my youngest son would shout "Yes Sir! I been there, done that and I fully agree Calculators sir are just right for me. He hates his math and my oldest son thrives on it. This poem once again is very charming. I'm a teacher so I have to pretend to like mathematics. Shhh! Don't tell my son.

Oie, I'm not so terribly good at math or equasions either, Robert. I think though, it's because we do logic by vision? That piece of cake is bigger, we can flip for it.:)) Okay, I'd spun off track here, and didn't say how much I had enjoyed this write! I find it clever and thorough, you've touched every mathamatical base with this one. homerun, for sure! Love, Mikki

Great work exposing those of us that did not even have math exposure that went beyond basic math..Enjoyed reading this afternoon...Your work always has such good flow, rhythm, and rhyme...Reminds me of years ago when there were a couple of songs about what a person did not learn in school..Sara

LOL...I can relate! I did alright in math until trigonometry. Boy, did I get out of that class in a hurry. For statistics in college I needed a tutor to pass. Thank God for the calculator, I agree! A great write. As always, you brightened my day. Blessings, Rhonda

Robert, I actually love basic math, mere adding, subtracting, fractions. But I had very bad teachers going into Algebra and geometry so I was unable to progress. Lucky for me, those things are totally unnecessary to our survival!! Basic math, however, has served me well. I don't even do calculators! Good poem
