Mask of Misery

Childhood is meant to be loving and carefree,
sadly it’s not always the way it should be...
The mask of misery hiding the curse
Coming from violence and angry words
A tender heart that's been broken in two
Too young to understand rage and abuse.
There's an unease in anticipation
Waiting for another confrontation
Relief comes after stress of the tirade
And the heart rate starts to settle again.
Leaning to live and love just doesn't exist
The odd one out, the loner, the misfit
Struggling with learning the lessons at school
"Could polish up" on reports as a rule.
Frozen emotions that deaden the soul
Thaw out when the truth begins to unfold
That love means living in serenity
Freedom found in an unchained melody.
