Mask

Every day I get up
I put on my happy smile for the world
Underneath my mask, I feel nothing
Underneath my mask there is nothing
I am nothing
Can’t you see through me?
Can you feel the sadness through my fake laughs
I know you can tell I don’t mean the words “I’m fine”
Don’t ask if I’m “okay” if you don’t want to know
If you’re not going to care
I’ll put on my mask for you
For everyone
So you all feel comfortable
So you all can pretend that nothing is wrong
I’ll be here though
Crying and holding up my mask
Holding up fake dreams
Holding up fake smiles
Hoping that one day
I’ll fade away

Eve: I think you may be short of vitamin D. That's the sunshine vitamin. That's it, you need to put more sunshine into your writing. :o) Try looking out the window and writing about what the sun shine shows you. I do that and often feel better just feeling the warmth of it. Keep them coming. oldbuck

A lot of the best poets, the most famous poets wrote from dark. You've got the knack of pulling a person through the screen and through the veil of your words and imagery into your realm. Keep it coming, but know this, if you 'FEEL', then you are alive and "You are Someone" and you are seen by those who get you. Keep it coming. Keep writing.

Your style is wonderful, Eve. Even though you are expressing dark feelings, your words reach the reader who can feel your pain and can relate because we've all been there in one way or another at different times and we know there is a light at the end of the tunnel eventually.

Although your poetry is dark, it's a good start. Perhaps, you will find that expressing your feelings (or lack of them) is healing, but, in any case, it's a healthy exercise. So sorry if you are in a deep depression. Look for something positive in your life and expand on it. There is good in you if you look for it. Reward yourself for every tiny step you take to climb back into the light. I will keep reading and following your journey. I hope to see a little sun shining through those clouds.
