Marley
We went to pick him up,
Travelled North in total ignorance,
Excited but full of nerves.
The car was packed with all the gear,
A metal crate, blankets, towels,
And three excited children full of glee.
And then there he was, a ball of fluff,
A most beautiful dog
Wearing a pink collar with brown eyes.
No words were needed,
It was love at first sight.
Cash was given, papers signed.
The deal was done, he was ours.
Back we drove, hugging, cuddling,
We took him home and looked at him for hours.
Ignorance was bliss.
We hadn't a clue what lay ahead.
But we were happy and the children went to bed
Dreaming of Marley and all the fun that lay ahead.
