Make Friends of the Young

Make friends of the young who live nearby They, like old friends, won’t dim, flicker, and die, Many times, they’ll comfort you when you cry Make friends of the young who live nearby. Do not fear they cannot understand your sigh Even if they seem frivolous, give them a try, Make friends of the young who live nearby They, like old friends, won’t dim, flicker, and die.

So true. I think my friendships with folks largely account for keeping my mind as sharp as it is. (Knock on Wood!)

There is a lot of wisdom in this. Keeping ties younger generations is the ticket to staying relative even as we age. Nicely penned Triolet! :) Paulette

Thanks, Paulette. I now enjoy being around the younger more than the older. When I'm with people my own age all we seem to talk about is our ailments and our medications.

It's a win win in my book, you gain their trust and friendship and they gain your wisdom. Tom

Aw, what a very nice thing to say, Tom. Yes, it is a "win win" in my way of thinking.

Although, it is wonderful to talk and associate with younger people, I also find great joy in having older friends. They usually have more wisdom than me (lol) They have been there/done that before. It's always heartwarming to put a smile on an elder's face...you have a few years on me, but you always manage to put a smile on my face. Thanks for that!

I like your triolet, Milton! Besides being there for us, the young can learn from our experiences. A win win situation! Blessings, Kim M

I learn so much from them, but I hope they would learn some things from my experiences. As you may guess, I'm a storyteller, so my friends get to know a lot about my life.

Good counsel to apply... many times the young ones are pleasantly surprised that we older ones have taken an interest in them. I still have fond memories of the grown ups that befriended me when I was but a lad. Nice work in the triolet form, enjoyed the read.

Thank you so much, John. I lost a fine, long-time friend this year to cancer, and it made me realize that my younger friends who live nearby are so important. Of course, I have always gravitated more toward older people, but now that I'm in that category I seek out the younger. It not only makes me feel younger, but I find they enjoy being around me, too. Keeps a young mind, so to speak. I so appreciate your ideas.
