Majestic Bald Eagles
Majestic Bald Eagles
I pace myself on this dry winter day
alongside my four legged running buddy.
Been cooped up and restless within four walls
watching the showers fiercely blown by the wind.
It’s been four long days now and the storm has passed.
I hear the wild piercing cries from up in the sky.
Stopping my run in mid stride,
I see three majestic bald eagles fly overhead,
their distinctive white heads clearly visible
as they soar and swoop, wings outstretched.
They search for prey below in the fields,
teaching the young one their hunting skills.
I watch as two land on the floating log boom.
Side by side they sit in the river, what a sight!
White heads blend into one, eyes watching.
The large male perches himself high in a tree,
sitting still as a statue, proudly puffed out.
He keeps watch as his mate teaches the little one.
I call out to him as I pass and he swivels his head,
One long look at me with those piercing eyes.
But I’m not a threat way down on the ground!
He turns his head back to the river,
as I leash my dog, and we carry on home.
Three bald eagles not seen for a while.
What a photo op this could have been!
