Lyricists

lyricists are heaven sent while poetry is the height of language it does not touch the heart as do the millions of songs on a daily basis that is because the heart is simpler an organ than the brain add delightful music millions become unafraid to sing and if we poets are to be honest truth be told that Shakespeare in all of his tavern days never heard that's me on the jukebox OKC 6/22

It may be that many a song began as a poem :) But I must agree completely Tim; a poem has never reached my heart the way some songs have.

i understand..i create some of my most endearing romantic lines listening to romantic songs...but the depth is mixed with metaphors and mythology that i have reaped from poems and what matters in all of this .....what makes the heart sing....poetry is for the serious student, it is the height of the language...

thank you....i love Shakespeare, but also love songs...and Browning's If Thou Must Love Me...and John Donne's The Ecstasy....as long as it lives in the wonderful world of Love, my life is richer

Timothy, well done! Lyrics joined with music are like a good marriage - each side brings out the best of the other and helps improve the other. To me, poetry is even easier to commit to memory when it is sung to a memorable tune.

exactly John...see the above comment, says it all, and the song What A Wonderful World is truly a walk with Whitman

a wise guy remark if there ever was one, well known for them, asks the nuns, but there were many a troubadour working the windows below...many a woman swooning from the lute a woo-wooing...one night in Mexico i accompanied a mariachi group in Mexico to record the experience...strickly science, altho we ended up in jail, all a misunderstanding i assure you but i am 28 years of sobriety

Songs do touch the heart more easily than poems. Yet when a poem really does touch your heart, it’s one you’ll not forget. In fact, you’ll likely memorize it.
