Notes About The Poem

For the Boulevard Of The Beloved Poetry Contest of Ink Empress

Luna, Lovely Luna

Luna, lovely Luna,
she is a goddess
and also
~the moon is
an honest Manipulator~

See her, this beauty
waxing and waning
    so steadfastly.
She is always there
       above us
like the immutable God
 who planted her
    at the planet’s genesis
  as the night scape
        for all humanity.

Who can say why
     she inspires painters to paint
and poets to praise her grace?
With the wiles of a woman,
 she changes shape
    yet she stays the course
set by her creator,
    for never does she stray
from her usual pattern.

God did not make her
to be a liar,
   yet oh, how she beguiles!
Throughout millennia,
 she has glowingly gazed down
  on numberless lovers.
How many affairs of the heart
 did she help to consummate?
Her constant rhythms
    turn the oceans’ tides
and when fully bloomed,
 this mysterious moon
  is said to induce madness.
Yet who can pin guilt
   on the face of such
 pearlescent innocent
             luminescence?

Like earth’s seas,
we are mystically pulled to her.
A portion of our fate
    she pre-ordains,
and whether she is silver,
 ivory white or golden,
            she steers the way,
and we are fools
    who do not understand
           her power.

Ah sweet andrea A very observant take on the prompt. I loved the rhythm and flow of your words, and how youv written about the moon so lovingly. I especially love "and when fully bloomed, this mysterious moon is said to induce madness." So true! Isnt that crazy. Iv noticed too. That during certain full moons some do go a bit different! The moon is certainly powerful! Pleasure reading this gem Thank you for sharing Congratulations on your win Sending you light always

"she inspires painters to paint and poets to praise her grace? With the wiles of a woman, she changes shape yet she stays the course set by her creator, for never does she stray from her usual pattern." Love that! Very well written. "we are fools who do not understand her power." -- Respecting and harmonizing with nature is best. All creation spiritually linked.

Dear Andrea, a glowing tribute to the moon’s ancient, contradictory power. Closing on the image of human vulnerability before her silver, ivory, or golden glow leaves me with reverent wonder. A classic, wonderfully composed, and deeply enchanting contest entry, Andrea! Blessings, Daniel

I like this one, Andrea. The moon does have its effect on humans. You giving the moon personification adds a special touch to your work. Way to go. 👏✍️. Sara K.

This started out with a beautiful verse and each verse shone with more beauty than the last. It's not easy to be that 'verse pleasing.' Since you punctuated (thank you) the last word seeks a full stop. (I thought that's one word for the English, but spell check didn't like it)
