Love Song For An Oak
I see the decades come and go; and still you stand
a stoic, silent witness to life's seasons passing,
stout testament to the hand that brought you forth
Storms may lash and tear, yet your shade always returns
and fruit is borne to feed the thieves that you've sheltered
who pay you, with the chance of their squander, in new issue
I see new generations finding courage in your cool shadow,
carving crude witness to their young passion in your flesh
and yet, no sweet songs of love in your name were ever sung
