“Heavenly Father, loosen my grip on the things of this world. Lead me in the dance of spontaneous, cheerful giving, and let that generosity remind me always of your grace toward me, which I in no way deserve. In your Son’s name I pray, amen." - Max Lucado, Grace: More Than We Deserve, Greater Than We Imagine
I remember when we held our babies,
Instead of our phones
I remember when we held it all together,
with hope brought by the One…
who hung on a tree, the sacrifice for you and me,
forever abiding so we might see,
beyond the darkness, the shadows, the fears,
beyond the storms that brought so many tears…
I remember when we left the past behind us,
Stirred the hearts with light that comes…
From knowing the love that abides inside us,
Love from the Creator who inspires hope,
The One who decides to help us to cope,
The One who came to provide more joy,
Peace and kindness than a heart can hold.
I remember when we were neighbors, who were neighborly.
We left our homes to share our thoughts, our dreams,
Our gentling songs, poured out from hearts who believe,
It is with Jesus’ love that we find a way to give away…
the spirit’s greatest wonder, the beauty beyond words,
the grace that comes from faith who decides…
we’re His, the One who gave us our lives, our minds,
our hearts and our souls, the compassion to go into the world…
with generous spirits, wisdom that gives and gives,
blessing those we meet along our way,
permitting love to open the gates, to pray
wherever we go, we know that God made a way,
Oh, yes, my friend… never forget to pray and praise…
He is the answer to so much pain and grief.
He stills the spirit who has survived the greatest heartache.
He reminds us all that, wherever we might be –
In our beds or in our cars, in the shadows of our thoughts,
In the day or the night, through the wrong and right…
He is alive and He restores the light… and, He will rewrite…
Every story, every fear, every tear
So that we will remember this storm
A memory – history who told us…
We would be crushed, devastated, ruined…
We will remember…
Because of a God who forgives us…
Our hearts and souls are at peace
Amid the shadows of a storm,
Who came to shatter our every hope.
Because He is the victor… the Savior, the gift to us…
We’ll always find a way to say…
Despite the storm, God saved the day.
Despite the storm, we still pray…
And, despite the storm, we’ll always praise.
Never forget the God who came, to fill our souls
With love and grace, the unending peace
That reflects the Son and all He’s done, the Son
Who taught us that, despite it all, love has won!
Yes, oh, yes… Love has won!
