Love

"One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life. The word is love.” ~ Sophocles, Greek Poet
Love, where travels thou diminishing shade? This is not the path I hastily bade nor is the future I envisioned made. Now, my Love, I feel thine true essence fade as old hung tapestry that's worn and frayed that in finality, to storage laid. Oh, Love. Art thou listening to my plea? I am selfish, I want thee near to me. Hear me now please oh Love. I beg of thee. Stay thou ground with me please and do not flee. Let us build a life together, may we? Or is our forbidden love not to be? Alas, thou hast died and our love is done and with shaking hands I cradle the gun.

Whoa!! Some people do use murder and/or suicide as a way to handle a love not that did not work out, but that is not the right answer. Congratulations on your winning work in Constance's contest. Way to go. Sara K

Romeo and Juliette crossed my mind as I wrote this Sara. Pretty drastic measures, as you say, not the right answer. Thank you! :)

Linda, this poem perfectly reflects the emotional despair of a soul feeling abandonment and betrayal. The last line shakes the soul of the reader into a reality of desperation at the crossroads of choice. Best wishes for the contest. Prayers for all of those who "cradle the gun." It is not the answer. Blessings.

Dear Linda, What a raw and poignant exploration of love's complexities and its impact on our lives. I loved your words, for you delve into the depths of longing, regret, and despair. It's haunting the fragility of love and its weight, echoing Sophocles' timeless wisdom. Linda, it is a deeply moving reflection on the power and pain of love. - Blessings, Daniel

Love so often has its own spirit.... and decides who will know it and who will lose it. I like this piece , the yearning , the hope.... the reality. Nicely written ! Thank you for sharing yourself through your words. Darrell
