Lost Childhood Memories

Where have all of my childhood memories gone?
I often see visions from an earlier time
Imbedded deep within my mind,
They take me back to my boyhood days,
Where everything was done in simpler ways.

I once went looking for familiar places,
To help me remember the past,
But there was nothing I could find
That was standing from an earlier time,

I did not find a house I once called a home,
I found no school, no familiar streets,
And childhood friends are grown and gone,
Sometimes urban renewal can be very cruel
And keep us from remembering the past.
