A call to Christ on holy week
LOOK TO THE PEARLY GATES
would i have taken more pride to my eyes,
in the sublimity of each stained-glass window?
i never saw the quintessential crown of thorns.
i don’t adore the mock up, but look to the pearly gate
where true jewels, radiant in purity shine.
it’s holy week and most people proudly boast
Christ on their shoulders, and tears do bend
toward the dusty ground for an iconic reverence
of a microscopic building, as seen from
the awesome sovereignty of God’s eye.
true ‘tis sad for mankind to lose a gem,
but more importantly to lose one’s soul.
‘tis not tied up in forest timber, nor hands of men.
only one tree held our Savior.
Behold! Look up! Not at the rafters of the Humpback’s feat,
but at the spawn of nails, the coffer of heaven’s inheritance.
a grand celebration where ashen knees drop in pretense
once a year, as a promise, to someone dear, on Easter.
open your eyes this time, to the wonder.
LOOK to the passionate fire
a spire falls, a church burns, people mourn
but heaven will ne’er burn, only hell
and why?
our Lord reclaimed us for His own if we believe,
believe not in falsetto, but in melody
with all our heart...with ALL our heart...ALL our Heart
incline, listen to the sweet merciful tone,
follow Him to His heavenly home
where you can sit forever at His feet
and stare in awe at the wonder of His majesty.
