Long After

That moment when you close your eyes, Inhale, and emptiness prevails, You can feel those butterflies flitter, Wings batting rampant, Wishing this eminent obligation away, Maybe tuck it aside for another day, Nerves tingling in riotous laughter, Mind spinning engaged in confusion, Dreams prevailing in optic illusion, Till at last I’m lost, Speechless and deaf, Nothing but that exhale left, It has arrived, I’ve succumbed to that tide, That calm before the storm has arrived, I can wrestle these contradictions, Diffuse that bomb, Threaten the storm, with decisive and calm, And rise on occasion, A true master of my emotions, Walk to the podium and elicit devotion, Release a lyrical gospel, Weave a poem of truth into the wind, Create thought provocation, A revolution about to begin, Instill change in the hearts of the wicked, And harness the light to my side, Bring those heroes and demons along for the ride, While I prophesize, About a future drenched in your smiles, An eternity of lingering in your warmth for awhile, Just settle in this peace enveloping my skin, Melting the tension that runs down my spine, An experiment to make this happiness mine, Because from the center of the crowd, I want to lead, To dictate opinions and plant a seed, But first I must master the shake of my hand, The course of air through my lung, The voice that will echo long after the stories begun.

Wow, James, this is gorgeous!!! Definitely created thought provocation in me. I too have tried to instill change in the hearts of the wicked, and harness the light to my side - it is a big and arduous task. I wish you well with that. So nice to make your acquaintance, I look forward to reading more of your work soon. Also, I'd like to invite you to visit my blog, to introduce yourself, if you'd like. Welcome to Poetry Soup!
