Loneliness

like the silhouette
of solitary
wetland reeds
I immerse my sadness
in a red sunset

Hi Paul, such a beautiful poem. In such a few words your emotion is expressed. You really have a flare with these shorter writes, that is not to say you don't have a flare for larger poems, for you do. It has been a pleasure to read this touching piece this morning. A Fave. Have a wonderful Saturday. Your friend always....Mike.

Many thanks, Carolyn! In this case the photo arrived after the poem was written. The vacation was hectic but enjoyable. After that, and 2 weeks without a computer (now problem solved) I have a lot of catching up to do, apart from the fact that I found a good amount of proof reading to deal with. Hugs // paul

A lovely, melancholy piece, Paul. A column in the Times yesterday mentioned how many antidepressants are being prescribed to lonely people. Very sad. Regards, Viv

Hi Viv...antidepressants are on the increase; even children in schools are being associated with these kinds of things. I assume that 'modern' living has brought in many new problems which did not exist in my youth. Regards // paul

Beautiful Paul... both the picture and the sentiment...and so where I'm at right now...sometimes you can't help but "immerse" yourself in sorrow. To happier days Paul :)

Ah, the mood somber has such a tranquil effect, Paul. This quiet space, where which your pen heart rests, settles the mind ... steels the will. Solitude forges iron fortitude ... a most beautiful thing to singularly behold. Ty for this timeless womb muse. Hope your health is on the mend. Lovely poem. Love and best wishes, my dear friend.

Dear Paul, nothing captures the state of loneliness, with more sadness, than a solitary silhouette - which is heightened by the drama of your sunset imagery. The melancholy beauty of your write is spellbinding, my wonderful friend.. Warmest wishes and hugs always.. ~Susan

You captured it so well in a few lines Paul. There is nothing more tragic than the state of loneliness yet many live it day in and day out. Tom
