Just recently took a train trip and the sound of that screeching can be unsettling ... smile ... like the whistle in the distance the best !! Congratulations on your win in Brian's contest!

I grew up near a railroad track..no gated crossing out in the country.. but I love this. BG

I live near railroad tracks and I don't think I could have captured this as well as you have here. I love that sound "clickety-clack" as they pass through "Upon iron tracks". Though sometimes thought to be a lonesome sound, I think of it as an adventure and wonder where will they go and what will they see? Well written. I am really growing fond of this form.
