Solitary sun in sapphire skies, beams its rays upon Earth's radiance. A tepid breeze flows between daffodils and bluebells, gently rocking. Spring is in the air, yet streets remain silent. Masked men in green suits, bearing arms, patrol - perturbed by unsought peace. Anticipating unauthorised motions, they wander past eerie emptiness - sleeping theatres, picture less cinemas, sober bars, childless schools and unfit gyms. Silence is disrupted by military vehicles occasionally startling their comrades. Echoes of continuous coughs, hidden behind closed curtains, prevent even the obstinate ones, admiring scents from rousing roses - whose petals are not idle in isolation. Industry of death is thriving - undertakers undertaking, grave diggers digging. Crematoriums fighting coffin carpenters - whose sympathies are disguised by greed. As humanity evolves into ashes. In the midst of clean air, mother nature smiles, bathing in tranquil purity of serenity the only fire burning is the sun. Silent One Simple Musing 22 March 2020

What a beautiful and poignant write Silent One. I hope your second stanza is poetic license and not reality in Britain.

Hello SO congratulations on your POTW. The world is sick, and we have to mother it back to a health again - the virus was maybe a sign that humanity had great disregard for this planet, we have paid a heavy price, deaths are reaching astronomical numbers and unfortunately there will be a lot more. Prayers and hope and being kind are our only salvation, a great wonderful poem but the factual details are grim. Blessings Jennifer

Silent One, your evocative social commentary on the current state of global affairs is as impactful as your masterful poetic artistry, wordplay and vivid imagery. I felt the intensity building to that stunning last line which made me catch my breath. Such a sharp contrast you draw from bright Spring beginning to dire end. WOW! Brilliant writing, my talented friend! Congratulations on your worthy and well deserved POTW honors, dear poet. Warmest wishes always and stay safe.. ~Susan

You portray so vividly the scenes we are watching on the news. Everyone is coping the best we can while still trying to see the beauty of earth through our tears. This is beautifully composed Silent. Stay safe xxoo

This wonderful poem has brought tears to my eyes, Z. So poignant with the juxtaposition of nature's beauty with man's grief. And, Ozzie's song was a perfect selection for this poem which may live on without us.
