Green speckled lizard on the wall
Laps up the warmth on satin skin
It lies serenely in repose
A mellow dream it holds within.
Beneath the rays of shining sun
Green speckled lizard on the wall
Enjoys the feel of jagged stones
As end of summer turns to fall.
It does not move; beyond a doubt
It is caressed by nature’s pill
Green speckled lizard on the wall
Is drugged in bliss; the air is still.
As time goes by and evening nears
The homeward sparrows fly and call
The darkness falls but now there’s no
Green speckled lizard on the wall.
