Little Gray Filly-Nursery Rhyme
On a stormy night a baby horse was born.
It took many tries to stand on her own.
Her mother warmed her and by the morn
she could walk in the stable all alone.
How proud of her daughter was mother, Dilly.
Hearing the news, the farmer's children quickly ran.
They smiled at the sight of the little gray filly,
especially the farmer's daughter whose name was Anne.
"She's going to be so much fun," Anne said.
"But we need a name for this little lady."
As if the filly agreed, she nodded her head.
From now on she'd be known as 'Shady.'
When the other farm animals heard the news,
they had a party by the old red brick wall.
The chickens and pigs danced to Maggie's moos.
and Anne gently hugged Shady in her barn stall.
