She is my roly-poly play toy
ambassadress of goodwill and joy.
Wrapped in the softest ebony fur,
she loves to sit in my lap and purr.
Though the gentlest of nature's creatures,
I love her fearsome feline features.
Sometimes, it seems all she wants to do,
is unblinkingly stare up at you.
She catches flies right out of the air,
and looks like a cuddly teddy bear.
When I leave, she meows with alarm,
but I don't mind; it's part of her charm.
She weighs twenty to twenty-five pounds
but stealthily does her nightly rounds.
Named shadow, I call her Little Girl,
and she's more precious than any pearl.
