This is an Acrostic using "Edgar Allan Poe"'s name since it is fitting for All Hallows Eve. He is one of my favorite writers of the 19th century and the forerunner to horror for the likes of Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker, and others. He is also an inspiration to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle for Sherlock Holmes. This Halloween I am honoring his memory as a brilliant writer with several of my own tributes over the years.
--------------
Eerie whispers in the night,
Dread fills the air, a chilling fright.
Ghosts of the past, they take their toll,
Apparitions that haunt the lonely soul.
Raven cries out, a mournful plea:
"All Hallows' Eve, the spirits are free!"
Lingering souls, they haunt the shadows,
Lamenting in a spectral tone.
A chilling wind silently twirled the leaves,
Night descends on All Hallows' Eve.
Piercing the silence, an owl's call,
Ominous chill courses through the hall.
Echoes of Poe linger as the day dissolves.
