Lingerers of Summer

I walk along, where myriads of sunny faces are nodding. As if to mock fall’s banishment of summer’s earlier bloomers, the sunflowers keep on smiling. Are they dancing in the cool breeze or are they waving goodbye to summer? Written Sept. 7, 2019 for nette onclaude's Farewell, Summer Poetry Contest

A passing glance now fades away. As Summer spends it's last warm day. The warmth encouraged from Falls sun. For warns what is to come and what is done. I love how you've brought to life the sunflowers Andrea. <3 :)

Hello Andrea … can't help but notice a sunflower with its size and radiant colour. I have never seen a crop of sunflowers though. The gold must appear spectacular, and at seasons end with seed setting a late bloomer must stand out - nicely penned again Andrea - Lindsay

Wonderful choice of theme. I have always thought and admired sunflowers, especially at the end of summer. Lonna

Probably a rare combination of both. So sad to see summer evaporating.

Fantastic imagery, Andrea - just beautiful. I have read so many good-bye to summer poems that I've turned sad thinking about summer leaving before I am finished with it. Love fall, but the older I get the less I like winter; I've experienced snow in Germany, New England and elsewhere, wonderful snows, fun - but I don't seem to want to be in that season anymore. Why is everybody rushing my warmth away? I really did enjoy your poem. Love, CayCay

Sunflowers are awesome, Andrea. And I didn't know they bloomed into fall. Perhaps the sunflowers are just saying, "See you again soon." It won't be long until we say farewell to 2019. Hope you caught up on your work for class. Love, carolyn

Yes, I read about them online and how they blossom at the end of summer. All this time I thought they were blossoming throughout the summer. Maybe they do all the way through, but I did notice the ones I got by my mailbox this year only started coming up a week ago!!
