Lilly's Lullaby

She was always there with her big green eyes Looking up at me and into the skies. Her dreams were of birds and of prowling about. I tried keeping her in but she always got out. She would hide on the roof to hunt unwary prey then gift them to me in her honoring way. Sometimes I screamed loudly at the gifts that she offered centipedes, roaches and mice were some things she proffered. Praises were always followed by special kitty treats. While I pleaded with her to make no repeats. She always stood guard as if to give me protection and would curl up close to me to offer her affection. Oh Lilly, sweet Lilly please continue to purr and I will continue to stroke your soft fir. As her song would begin well, it made me cry. I’ll miss her every day until the day that I die. There is an almost "indefinable" bond that can develop between animal and human. So very different from relationships that concern creatures of the same species...How very odd! I had a Jack Russel for sixteen years - he was almost human! At the point of his death, as i held him in my arms, i had a blinding and most disconcerting revelation - The dog understood me better than i understood him!! ...Who is the most intelligent species on the planet? I wonder...i wonder...i really do... :) john.

Oh Connie, this Ode, is so touching and beautiful, and makes me cry for my own sweet kitty. There is such comfort in the love of a pet, and it is such a huge loss when they leave. :)

thanks for seeing that video, Connie. It was so fun to make it. I felt that she should have put it underneath the same place where the Gangnam video on Youtube is. Then it could get more hits. Nobody listens to me!!!

OOOOOOWWWWWW, I love kitty poetry. This was great. Our cat Mamma Mia gets up on the roof, but then cannot get down, so we bring her in through the bathroom window. Love, daver

Dear Connie, How Lilly reminds me of my cats. They left all sorts of treasures (beheaded critters) at my door and wanted lap time even more than kitty treats. You brought back some wonderful memories, Hon. I think I'm ready to get another kitty now. (I've missed my last cat, Katy, for nearly five years. She was 22 when she died.) Happy Thanksgiving! I'd love to try to co-write with you some day. Your poetry has wonderful appeal to me. Love to my gifted friend, Carolyn

Oh, thank you so much for fav'ing this Carolyn. My aunt had a beloved cat for many years and when she was ill and had to go to the hospital her kitty died without her. She felt so bad that she wasn't there to comfort him, but a week later she passed on too and I love knowing her kitty was there to greet her. Thanks so much. Let's collaborate, it may take a little longer because my time on the net is limited taking care of my g.daughter but I am up for it. Blessings, Connie

Poignancy at its best, connie. I feel this way about CAllie Cat and my Ollyver. I had a Lilah, remember. Her name similar to this dear pet of yours! I always feel guilty for getting rid of that one but she was ruining our carpets so badly. I hope I don't go to hell for taking her to the pound.

This is a lovely and touching poem, Connie. Pets are such good companions; we've always had cats in the family. The trouble is that when they pass away a big void is left. I always say "no more", but I can never say no to the next sweet kitten that comes my way! // paul

My daughter took her cat with her when she married so now our home is catless. I do miss the sweet purring songs and the cuddles. I am sure I will have another one day. Thank you for your lovely thoughtful comment Paul. Blessings, Connie

I can feel the love you have for this beautiful cat in every line. As I write this, Fred, my tomcat is in my lap trying to tuck his head under my chin and pulling at my hair. Don't you feel like someone special when a cat loves you?
