Lil' Mama

My Lil' Mama Like a Guardian angel, you stayed beside my tiny bed, To me and Little Johnny you wore a halo round your head Lil' Mama, my big sister You took us by the hand Reading us sweet bedtime stories pointing to the promised land Thank you for the sunshine and all your precious love For all the walks and our long talks Beneath the clouds above When sorrows came like comets And crashed our dreams apart Though only six years older You gently held my heart When my golden two-foot Goldie locks fell on the Barber's floor You said I looked like Twiggy As we stepped outside That door I was your little sister But you were like a mom to me The sweetest Lil' Mama That there could ever be Our harmony of voices Would ring out neathe' the stars And they are ringing still I bet In the universe of ours Today is a big birthday Your seventy years old Little Mama I just wanted To bless your heart of gold But Mary Anne dear sister I find it hard to say Just how much I hope, And wish, and definitely pray You're blessed with waves of much Joy and blessings on this Precious day Your love has so impacted me In your loving gentle way Though miles separate us And years have grown between From days of golden hillsides And gentle meadows green As I contemplate sweet memories Those sun filled days of Ocean breeze Filled with all the songs we've sung You are to me forever young I love you so; I hope and pray Your blessed With joy on your birthday Written for my Lil' Mama Mary Anne From her Jetty Bo AKA Twiggins

Hello Deb my sweet friend, thank you for your visit and precious words! I know I felt incredibly lucky, I cannot imagine what my life would have been without my Lil' Mama <3 My very first memory is of her face and my cousin Johnny's faces looking at me from over the side of my crib, both with angelic smiles of love. She is a precious soul, and truly was like a guardian angel to me. She use to make popcorn and lemonade and my little sister and I would have a lemonade stand in our front yard, the proceeds purchased small pieces of remnants of fabric, and she would make us clothes. She took home ec at school, so she had learned to make very pretty outfits for us. She babysat us a lot, and made our lives such a joy!

oh my gosh, how sweet this is. So was she born sept. 6 then? She is Virgo like me! I love the part where you cut off your hair and she said you looked like Twiggy, a great compliment!!! (hopefully I am back again for commenting as much as I am able)

Yes, today is her birthday! I loved Twiggy, she put 'Twiggy' eyes on me when our parents were gone, I loved it when she was in charge :) <3

:) Thank you Joe, she had an enormous impact on me, my cousin Johnny who was like our brother since he lived with us, and to my little sister. She is such a sweetheart, and I love her so much :)

My sister was like a mom to us, our mother had a lot of kids and couldn't cope with so much between cooking, cleaning, shopping, and the myriad of things she did...Mary Anne filled in with the nurturing, fun, advice, making us clothes, taking us to the zoo, the movies, teaching us to sing...oh my goodness that sweet girl! Happy Anniversary again Sara, how wonderful to be so blessed with such a long love :) <3

That is so sweet Janice, a kindred spirit to my sister :) I'm glad this poem blessed you! Your siblings are so lucky to have had you, and that is a priceless gift to have a nurturing heart to share. Mamas get tired and sometimes the real love and nurture that a child needs will come from siblings, and we were also blessed with an aunt who truly blessed us as a second mama. Thank you, Vijay, I'm glad I could put to pen some of how I feel about this sweet dear sister. I know she still loves us dearly, she can only love, I don't think she has a mean bone in her, I don't think she could ever hate anyone, but boy her family truly are blessed. She is sort of a joyful version of Mother Theresa to us her younger siblings, but has a remarkable resemblance to Sally Field :D <3 She has children and grandchildren of her own now, busy, busy lady :) <3

Nice picture of your sister/mom mom (we'd be saying "mum" here in UK, but I kind of prefer "mom", actually). This is a good read, BJ.

Our Great Grandfather came from England, and our mother and at least one aunt called our grandma 'Mum', but this generation I guess has now been a bit further away from the Mother Land and I suppose they wanted us to speak more like Americans, I think 'Mum' is adorable :) One thing that lingers in our dialect is the expression of bloody, like "Mmmm! This is so bloody good!" or "That was so bloody sweet!" We realized nobody else says this beside our family, lol, its ok, Grandpa lives on in a way :D
