Lightning

Lightning has a shocking
reality – the effect of a near
strike, the trilling sizzle,
a high pitched resonate string
reminded by Nature we are
of her awesome power – not
to be underestimated and trifled
with; yet, we do: pissing in her
skies and seas, small wonder
the shark circles and gapes --
man was not his tactical prey,

but tastes can change
in the theory of evolution –
maybe even souls migrate,
back to basics, for
a far more respectful, less soggy host….

Hi Joe; electricity is intimidating. May have been closer than you think. I remember a live power line during an ice storm come down on my car stopped at a traffic light. Driver's window was open. Don't know if I was in danger as I slowly rolled out from under the damn think going through the red light seeing the spitting serpent flash in the street behind me. Must have been about 20 degrees but I was sweating. I remember a war story my father told me (he never spoke of killing) in his cot at night a bomb exploded near by jolting the ground knocking him out of his cot. He put his pants on, lit a smoke against rules, went outside and said to himself that he was going to die dressed and defiant. Crazy I know. I think war does that to you.

loved it...returning to a 'less soggy host.' Love the symbolism in your words.
