Light On the Devil's Chord - Day 19
The demon I had healed was watching me all night,
Silently crawling amongst the others,
Closer though, his strange arms stretched toward me,
And I was awakened, just before the crack of dawn
Cushioned in warmth, peculiar to the touch
“I want you to stay strong for the sake of your soul,” Said he, softly.
“For I know what he will do…
You are a pleasant girl with a pure heart
Do not ever forget the power you possess
As a woman of faith,
Your intuition is keen and vital…”
His voice was that of a mature child,
Pure and pleasant to the ears
I turned away, my heart in pain,
Unable to withhold my selfish need for him to be there with me
“How can I resist such a Being, demon?
How will I ever leave this pit the same again?”
The demon sat near me,
Thoughtfully silent, breathing through creaking bones
Looking around to ensure The Prince was occupied in slumber
“You have saved me, I feel it,
The darkness no longer overwhelms me,
Almighty God has spoken to me in a soft voice,
Reminding me redemption is for all…”
‘Ask, and it will be given to you…’ we whispered softly together,
In a harmony of dejected smiles
“May I call you my friend?
You have cleansed me, sweet spirit of light,
Blessed me, believed in me, when all I knew was this fate
When all I lived for till your light, was to his wretched gate
How can I ever thank you enough?
I must confess,
You will never be the same, strange woman
What you have seen will never leave you,
It will shape you, assure you…
Mark you eternally grateful
But in the time of your leaving, please,
Sweet spirit, please,
Do not forget me,
I ask you to plead for my life,
Speak to Him for me,
For I am weak in His sight
I shiver in fear at the thought of His might
Dear, sweet spirit, do not leave me to die
For I have changed, and I will fight for your light…”
I clasped the demon’s hand and hushed his desperate voice
His words spilling like a sacrificial offering,
Steaming, hot with passionate repentance,
His eyes filled with love and gratitude,
And great, swelling fear
The Devil arose, in silent mystery,
The demon crawled back into the darkness,
His lizard-like eyes still pleading
“Another dark morning has arrived,
Why do your eyes glisten so?
We have our duets to sing,
Our voices together ringing through this lonely tomb…”
I inhaled deeply, respiring a joyous note,
My courage returning to my lungs,
Springing to life in the pit
“Yes, let us sing all the day and night, dark Prince!”
Together, our voices melted as one:
“Fight on, oh brazen of heart,
Fight on for our futures gleam clear
In our glory given, so close, so dear
The light within the darkness,
Shall mix in its colors, the surety of us
And the surety of all”
