Light In the Window

Having played hard all day, the dusk now sets in, A time to re-join with her kith and her kin. But today she will not be afforded that lot, For the souls she now dwells with, her family are not. Skipping through town she finds her delight, In the form of a window, and a lamp glowing bright. For a moment the emptiness dons a disguise, As the warmth it emits, brings light to her eyes. A light that dispells all the pain and the fear, And speaks to her heart the words "Love must live here". Igniting her spirit, evicting the dark, She's drawn to the glow as a moth to a spark, A friend most familiar, a lighthouse in part, Soft beacon of safety, offering peace to her heart. Is she pined for by those she so yearns for today? Are their hearts still connected though an ocean away? The swift years have flown by, two score have now seared, The dream of the little one since first it appeared. That an ember of light take it's place in her life, And drive out the rejection, the fear, and the strife. She finds herself hopelessly, aimlessly bound, To a life with no future, a voice with no sound. Dark closes in on the warm light of day, The light that once held their rejection at bay. Having mourned her whole life, for the life she once knew, Mending pieces of brokeness, to just get her through, Believing acceptance she one day could own, Hope now extinguished she yearns to go home.
