Restless nights and guarded days;
means once more, his heart has strayed.
Though he vowed to mend his ways,
past sins await penance paid.
Years of lies shadow the past;
cast by promises pending.
And when good times fail to last,
you realize they're ending.
Months quickly morph into years,
pressures build, and nerves get raw.
And stymied by fears and tears,
failing dreams start to withdraw.
Passion's flame burns so dim;
all you can see is heartache.
For when love's left to fate's whim,
hardened hearts easily break.
O'er the years, even hope frays,
for time, can't postpone old age.
And you're running out of days;
before your soul leaves life's stage.
