Lesson

I had a shoe that almost fit.
I was sure that this was it.
Flying by those subtle signs.
Thinking I was running out of time.
I heard your words, but didn't listen
I was broken, but not in complete submission
Thinking I could do things my way
And you'd bless me on that day…
But, I learned we have free will
The price was fierce, your blood that spilled
But, we’re not free from the consequences of sin
And it broke me from within.
Now i wait beneath the silence
Even on those days my mind is filled with violence.
Now I war with your spoken word
Walking out the things I've heard.
I'm not perfect, I still fall
But I know you paid it all
In my hurting, in my fears
I can feel you close and near.
Thank you for never giving up on me
It's your grace that carries me.
In my weakness you make me strong
It's your love that leads me on
You're aware and you do care
There are still things I do not share.
Cause they broke me to my core
You have seen all I endured.
Your patience humbles me
Calling me into my destiny
On those nights,
those demons try to steal my light
I press on, I know how to fight
They come back to try my fate
But they are met with something great
A holy vengeance stirs inside
Knowing I don't have to hide
They will regret what they did to me
Because my purpose is to see others free
From the torment and all their addictions
I now have these deep convictions.
I use my life, I use my song
To let others know they are not alone
I use my voice to help others breath again
For I have met my closest friend.
No one could ever take your place
I look forward to standing face to face
With the one who rescued me
From a life of shame and misery.
Who on earth could compare
To a God who's always there
I now see a reason to be here
You have wiped my every tear
Thank you for your wisdom and love
That comes from up above
Thank you for those times of corrections
They gave me this resurrection.
