Less Than Enough
I wish I could be
Be the friend you need
Be able to fill your empty
Your broken
Your missing bits
The bits of you that have been left behind
Those bits you grasp for
Grasping at air
Grasping for what little I have to share
Leaving me grasping for my own breath
I cannot breathe for you
Oh how I want to
I desperately need to
Instead I feel indescribable suffocation
Wishing I was strong enough
Yet my wishing is not nearly enough
Perhaps if enough time passes
I will regain my strength
Do you feel it?
Do you know?
Do you understand my silence?
Do you interpret it as listening?
Listen carefully
Listen for the sound of my breathing
Listen until you hear
My grasping
My own missing
My little gaping bits of empty
Empty that can't be filled
Won't be filled
Oh how I wish it could be filled
Filled to overflowing
Perhaps then I could be enough
More than enough
A cup running over kind of enough
So I will keep trying
Trying my best
to breathe us in
By helping
And holding on
To you!
For maybe
Yes maybe
Somehow
Possibly
Hopefully
We might be
More than strong enough
Together!
After reading Laura Breidenthal's "Is anyone out there"
I was inspired to write this piece.
