Good wishes for my enemy contest

I may cringe when I feel the burdensome need
to forgive someone for doing me an odious deed.
But I cannot hide in dark aubergine shadows
knowing it's a necessary step that I must take.
It's a Bible based principle I must not forsake.
I can't expect to be forgiven if I don't give pardon.
It's not God's ire I seek or for His heart to harden
against me. I'd wish an enemy no ill-will, nor
find fault with his or her flaws, faults or railing.
If I did, I'd be the one whose mercy is failing.
Forgiveness is given only when words are spoken.
It must be conveyed, not just thought as a token.
For how could an enemy know of that lenient virtue
if it remains unsaid, hidden in aubergine shadows?
Act as Gideon did. Absolution you must disclose.
