Gershon, A message of warning, or prediction of future clashes? And we., the puppets that must fight and die. The United Nations stand to lose a few more flags. Traded for ideologies and beliefs, though strong, perhaps a bit dated. Though I'm a firm believer in traditions that've stood the test of time, and remain true to mine. The US should never stand alone. Where are those other nations now? I'll get off my soapbox now. -Richard

Hopping on to the soapbox: What good has the UN done sin the last 50 years? Proclaim that 'Zionism is Racism? (1976)? Put Cuba, N. Korea, and Iran on the 'Security Council? Or how about all the times it has done NOTHING to stop Putin's blatant takeover of countries (like Crimea), his shooting down of airplines, and his poisoning of political opponents? And, of course, there's the 'tough action' it's taken against Iran, Pakistan and others for hosting terrorists within their borders. The UN? ---Useless Nations, it should be renamed. :) gw

The only reason the west was in Afghanistan was because it was a safe haven for terrorists, wonder how long it will be before we're back in again. Tom

We tried to hand the ball off to those without hands.... As for Israel they will release their full nuclear payload and fight to the last man and women before they would fall.. only fools and devils would try to swallow a live cobra.. goodness, in the long run, has always overcome evil. best wishes, Anthony

Have you forgotten Russia previously dropped the ball in Afghanistan when they realised it was a conflict they could not win? The USA foolishly grabbed the opportunity to train troops and test experimental weaponry on someone else's turf until even that expense became too expensive for investors. As for leaving Afghans high and dry, when has Congress ever kept their word?

I'm with you up until 'too expensive for investors.' I feel we needed to obliterate the Taliban from the face of the earth, every man, woman, and child --- along with their immoral and amoral religious 'teachings.' Only then could the vast majority of normal Afghanistans know a peaceful future... Consider that to this day we'll still have troops in Germany! and S. Korea! to this day... No false mercy on 'heaed-hunters' from me!

I certainly hope not, Gershon. Just for informational purposes, how would you have gotten us out of that mess? I would certainly be stymied, but I think we gave it the best we could for over 20 years. Enough already!

But, since we didn't do what you would have done...how would you get us out of the mess now? Oops! Too late to talk about it now...we're at the airport! But, I digress. Does anyone know what deal Mr. Trump made with the Taliban before he left office? Hmmmm...I wonder.

I'll take you up on your challenge, Milt. Here's my view. Given Russia's decade-long failure 1980-89, and given that we weren't interested in anything but getting rid of the Taliban: We needed to really wipe out the Taliban from the get-go. By that I mean every man, woman, and child. Then ban the teaching of their religion, and all their symbols. 100% Ban forever. I would have give in a 2 - 3 year push for a total wipeout, followed by another 2 -3 year window spent on mostly air defense, while the Afghan People secured their home against any future Taliban apprisals... For perspective: We still have troops in Germany! in South Korea! But we can't spare some for Afghanistan after a mere 20 years. Rubbish! ~ gw
