Last Visit With Cicadas

The buzzes I hear coming from next door Cause this old man's blood pressure to soar After they waited seventeen long years Time for the summer cicadas is here Shrill chirping voices do not bring me cheer Loud scissoring buzzing makes me crazy Searching for love, they sure are not lazy By midday I am completely exhausted My brain is befuddled, think it's all hazy, Next time, I won't be here to be accosted. written June 13, 2021

So far, there hasn't been a sign or a buzz from a single cicada here? I'm not complaining, mind you. I'm not a noise person. Some years ago we were infested with insatiable caterpillars. The result? Denuded trees as far as one's eyes could see! Noise has been used as a form of torture, you know. Enjoyed this poem./ Maurice

Thank you, Maurice. Yes, I am aware of that, and a horrible method it is. I understand they play ear-splitting music for hours on end, at Guantanamo Bay. It must be dreadful!

When they land on you and stick to your skin, that is when you get the heebiee jeebies! "Shrill chirping voices do not bring me cheer" Is this the year? UGH!

Actually, it is and, so far, we haven't been too bothered with them, but some places are having an epidemic of cicadas.

I don't know Milton. Longevity may well be your dance partner for years to come. Those cicadas might waltz around you once again. An enjoyable write! Live on through the buzzing, Milton + keep your head down. Sincere best wishes, Brian

Thanks so much for your kind and thoughtful comment, Brian. Let's see, I reckon if I live to be 97, I'll still be writing poetry, so you all be prepared!

This gave me a real buzz, Milt. You should look on the bright side... in Hollywood, when something lives underground for seventeen years and then emerges... it eats you! ;-) Terry

I hear you, Richard. I don't think I'll make it to 97, thank goodness. Yes, it's amazing how our world changes in a seventeen year period. Think about this, too: They won't be the same cicadas!

that's a funny write. I don't have any cicadas here in Altoona but my ex is swarming with them in Bedford Pa. I don't get it?? I'm with you on this Milton. I visited last weekend and felt he was invaded by ufo's..drove me crazy..

Good, as far as I know. I was in Florida from Thursday last until Tuesday. More Florida poems in the offing. Hope you are well. I always love hearing your comments.
